Tumakov Sergey Pavlovich (1919–2003)

People’s Artist оf Russia. Famous for his genre paintings and landscapes. Studied at Leningrad Academy of Arts, and later at the Repin Art Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under the tutelage of M. Avilov and V. Oreshnikov (1945-1951). Member of the Union of Russian Artists. Honoured Artist of Russia. Participant of numerous significant exhibitions of Russian art from 1952. Taught at the Art School in Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod) for many years. Travelled extensively across the country and created a series of panoramic views of Nizhny Novgorod convents and rivers. In 1977 he had his first one-man show in the Lukh Regional Museum to which he donated some of his works. His  personal exhibitions were held in Nizhny Novgorod in 1979, 1982, 1989, 1999. Sergei Tumakov's paintings are exhibited at art museums in Nizhny Novgorod, Lukh, Ulyanovsk, and at the Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg.
