Colourful and warm winter scene by Russian painter
Sergey Nikolaevich Shomin (1913-2002), a bright representative of Russian plein air school. Fought at the Second World War. In 1956 he graduated from the Repin Art Institute of the Academy of Fine Arts of the USSR under tutelage of V.Serov and B.Ioganson. His name is more often associated with the city of Astrakhan and Caspian Sea where he painted the series of his marines and genre pictures depicting everyday life of local fishermen. Shomin has become famous for his marines in the mid of 1950s. In 1959 he became the member of the Uniuon of Marine Artists. Shomin lived and worked in Moscow region. His works preserved at 16 various museum collections (including Astrakhan State Picture Gallery) and in numerous private collections, both in Russian and abroad.
